I read it for free. It was well written and well paced. The concept is original, and it was enjoyable overall.
I was given a complimentary copy of this short story by the author. This was a tantalizing story, and I enjoyed it much. It makes for a terrific "teaser" to Mr. Jaffe's series. I am definitely going to purchase volumes 1 & 2 of this series. The story line was unique. The author's writing was crisp, polished and precise. Although this was a short story of 25 pages, Mr. Jaffe packs a lot of action and vivid characterization into the story. Great job, Mr. Jaffe!
This was my first Stuart Jefferson story. It is a great introduction to his works. The bluesman is a musician, but also a lot more. He came from another dimension. That place was a post apocalyptic ruin where everyday life is a struggle to survive. When the bluesman was accidentally sent to our Earth, he found a veritable paradise. The only problem is that some nasty things came through the portal with him. Teamed up with a college dropout, the bluesman uses his magic and fighting skills to track down and destroy the nasty beasties.
A great introduction to the characters for both this series and his other series that takes place on the bluesman's native world. I recommend this short story. I know I will be following it up with more stories in both series.
